Sky Ultimate TV
The base package worth taking. Sky's fuller channel line-up, including Sky Atlantic, plus Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+ all bundled in rather than billed separately.
Sky now sells TV as two base packages with add-ons on top, and streaming hardware you can take without a dish. Here is how the pieces fit together and which you need.
Sky has quietly reorganised itself. The satellite dish is no longer the default, the channel list is no longer the main selling point, and the base packages now bundle third-party streaming services alongside Sky's own channels. That is better value than the old model, but it has made the line-up harder to compare against anything else.
The structure is simple once you see it: pick a base TV package, add Sports or Cinema if you want them, choose how it is delivered, and decide separately whether Sky's broadband is competitive at your address. This guide takes those four decisions in order and says where Sky is good value and where it is not.

Three choices settle most Sky decisions – which base package, and whether sport is the reason you are here.
The base package worth taking. Sky's fuller channel line-up, including Sky Atlantic, plus Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+ all bundled in rather than billed separately.
The cheaper floor: a smaller channel line-up that still keeps Sky Atlantic, with Netflix and discovery+ included. Enough Sky for a household that watches one streamer.
The add-on people actually come to Sky for. The broadest live sport coverage in the UK, and comfortably the largest single line on most Sky bills.
Every option side by side, with the one thing that actually distinguishes it.

Sky's case has changed: it is now as much a bundler of other people's services as a channel provider.
Sky's base packages include third-party streaming services alongside its own channels – Ultimate TV bundles Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+. If your household already pays for two or three of those separately, the package can cost less than the subscriptions it replaces, which is a different argument from the old channel-count pitch.
Sky Stream delivers the full Sky experience over your broadband to an existing television, and Sky Glass builds it into the set. Neither needs a satellite dish, which removes the landlord problem, the installation appointment and the aerial on the wall. For renters and flats that is the single biggest change Sky has made.
Sky Sports remains the broadest live sport package in the UK, with Premier League and F1 coverage and the Sky Sports+ streams on top. Sky Atlantic carries HBO's output and Sky's own originals. These are the things that are not available from a cheaper streaming stack.
Four decisions, in this order, and the broadband one is separate from the rest.
This is the single most useful exercise. List every streaming service your household pays for and what each costs. Ultimate TV bundles Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+ alongside Sky's channels, so if you pay for two or three of those already, compare the package against the total you are currently spending rather than against zero. For many households that comparison is the whole argument.
Sky Sports is the most expensive add-on and the main reason people pay Sky prices. If live football, F1 or cricket is what you are here for, add it and accept the cost, nothing else in the UK carries the same breadth. If it is not, do not let a bundled offer talk you into it, because it is the single largest line on most Sky bills and the easiest one to remove.
Sky Stream is a small box that plugs into your existing television and works over broadband, which makes it the cheapest and most flexible route and the obvious one for renters. Sky Glass builds everything into a new television with a built-in Dolby Atmos sound system, which is tidier but means buying a screen. Neither needs a dish. Both depend on your broadband being reliable.
Sky Stream is a puck that plugs into any television over broadband – cheapest, most portable, and the sensible default. Sky Glass is a television with Sky built in, now in its second generation, with a cheaper Sky Glass Air variant that drops the built-in soundbar.
Sky Q is the older satellite platform. If you already have it and it works, there is no urgency to change, but the newer platforms are where Sky's development effort now goes.
Ranked by how well each one delivers on what it promises, not by price.

Count what your household already pays for streaming, then look at this package again — for many homes it replaces more than it adds.
Ultimate TV is Sky's main television package and the one that makes the bundling argument properly. You get the fuller Sky channel line-up, including Sky Atlantic with HBO's output and Sky's own originals, and on top of that Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+ are included rather than sold separately. For a household already paying for two or three of those, the comparison is not package price against zero but package price against the current streaming bill. Sky has restructured the package around this bundling because it competes with a stack of individual subscriptions rather than with other channel providers, and the package contents shift accordingly.
It is delivered over broadband via Sky Stream or Sky Glass, so there is no dish and no installation visit. The caveats are the usual ones: it is a minimum-term commitment, the bundled services are at specified plan levels rather than necessarily the top tier of each, and the value collapses if you would not have subscribed to those services anyway. If you only watch one streaming service, Essential TV or no Sky at all is the better answer. That is also the reason to re-read the inclusions before signing: the list of bundled services has changed more than once, so what a review described last year may not be what you are buying today.

The package to take if you want Sky Atlantic and a Netflix subscription and would rather not pay for four more services you will not watch.
Essential TV is the entry point and it is better value than its position suggests, because it keeps the thing most people actually want from Sky: Sky Atlantic, with HBO's output and Sky's own dramas. Around that sits a smaller line-up of Sky and free-to-air channels, with Netflix and discovery+ included. For a household that watches one or two streaming services and wants Sky's drama, this is the right level. It also includes the free-to-air channels, so it works as a complete television solution rather than something that sits alongside an aerial and a separate set of apps.
What you give up against Ultimate TV is a substantial number of channels and the Disney+, HBO Max and Hayu inclusions. Whether that matters depends entirely on whether you would pay for those separately. The delivery, terms and dish-free setup are the same as the higher package. The honest test is to list what you currently subscribe to: if the answer is Netflix and nothing else, Essential is the package and the step up to Ultimate is money spent on services you will not open. The upgrade path is straightforward if you change your mind, which is worth knowing: starting at Essential and moving up later is easier and cheaper than committing to Ultimate and discovering you do not watch most of it.

Nothing else in the UK carries this much live sport: which is exactly why it costs what it costs.
Sky Sports is the reason a large share of Sky customers are Sky customers. It runs nine dedicated channels covering Premier League football and Formula 1 among much else, with the Sky Sports+ streams adding further concurrent coverage on top. If live sport is what you watch, there is no comparable UK package, and attempting to assemble the same coverage from individual services does not work. It works across all of Sky's delivery platforms, so you can take it on a Stream puck, a Glass television or an existing Sky Q box without any difference in what you receive.
It is also the single most expensive thing you can add, and the easiest to overbuy. Be honest about how much live sport you watch outside the football season, because the bill does not change when the fixtures stop. Note too that no UK provider carries every competition, so some fixtures will still sit behind another subscription. Treat it as a sport purchase on its own merits rather than something to accept as part of a bundle offer. If you only want a handful of specific fixtures each season, it is worth pricing a day or month pass from Sky's streaming service against the full add-on before committing to the latter for a year.

Bundling broadband with the television is convenient and often cheaper: but only if Sky's price is competitive at your particular address.
Sky sells full fibre broadband in bands rather than as a single product: an everyday tier for browsing and video calls, a middle tier for busier households streaming on several devices at once, and a top band reaching multi-gigabit speeds for 4K streaming and gaming, with Gigafast+ including WiFi Max. Because Sky Stream and Sky Glass deliver television over the internet, the broadband is no longer a separate concern: it is part of your picture quality. Sky also sells variants aimed at particular uses, including options pitched at home working, gaming and very heavy households, which are largely the same speed tiers with different bundled equipment.
The right approach is to treat it as a separate purchase that happens to bundle well. Get quotes from other providers at your exact postcode first, because full fibre pricing and availability vary dramatically street by street, and a bundle discount on an uncompetitive base price is not a saving. If Sky is in the running, the single bill and the guarantee that your television and broadband come from the same place is a real convenience. WiFi Max is the one inclusion worth noticing, because whole-home coverage is the problem most people actually have, a fast line into the house is no use if the signal does not reach the far bedroom.

The single best change Sky has made: no dish, no engineer, no landlord conversation, and it works on the television you already own.
Sky Stream is a puck that connects to any television over HDMI and delivers the full Sky experience across your broadband connection. There is no satellite dish, no aerial and no installation appointment, which removes the barrier that kept Sky out of flats and rented properties for decades. It is also portable in a way satellite never was — it works at any address with a broadband connection. Because it carries the whole Sky experience, including the add-ons and the on-demand library, there is no functional compromise against the satellite platform beyond the dependency on your connection.
It is the sensible default for most new Sky customers, and the obvious choice if you already own a television you are happy with. The dependency is your internet connection: a drop-out takes your television with it, and picture quality on a congested connection suffers in a way satellite did not. Use a wired Ethernet connection to the box if you can. Compared with Sky Glass it is also the cheaper route, because you are not buying a screen as part of the deal. Sky Glass is the alternative if you want the same thing built into a television with a proper Dolby Atmos sound system, now in its second generation, with a cheaper Glass Air variant that drops the built-in soundbar.

The two cinema tickets are the quiet argument here, for a couple who go to the pictures monthly, they cover a large share of the cost.
Sky Cinema is the film add-on, and its interesting feature is not the channels. Alongside the Sky Cinema line-up it includes two Vue cinema tickets a month and Paramount+ at no extra cost, which changes the arithmetic considerably: for a couple who go to the cinema once a month, the tickets alone offset much of what the add-on costs, and Paramount+ is a service some households pay for separately. It also works across all the Sky delivery platforms, so a Stream puck, a Glass television and an older Sky Q box all receive the same content and the same inclusions.
The channels themselves are a more modest proposition in a world of streaming. Sky Cinema gets films after their cinema run and before or alongside the subscription services, with a rotating selection rather than a deep library, so it works best for people who want something to put on rather than a specific title. If you rarely go to the cinema and already have two or three streaming services, this is the easiest add-on to skip. Treat the Vue tickets as the deciding factor rather than a bonus: if nobody in the household will reliably use two cinema tickets a month, the rest of the add-on has to justify itself on the channels alone, and that is a harder case.

Essential TV is the entry package, with a smaller channel line-up including Sky Atlantic plus the free-to-air channels, and it bundles Netflix and discovery+. Ultimate TV carries considerably more channels and bundles Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hayu and discovery+.
The deciding question is how many of those streaming services you already pay for. If it is two or more, Ultimate is usually the better value despite the higher price.
No. Sky Stream delivers everything over your broadband to an existing television, and Sky Glass has Sky built into the set. Neither requires a dish, an aerial or an installation appointment.
That makes Sky viable in flats and rentals where fitting a dish was never going to be allowed, which was previously a hard barrier.
Sometimes. Sky sells full fibre across speed tiers from everyday use up to its fastest multi-gigabit option, and bundling puts everything on one bill. Whether it is actually the cheapest option depends entirely on what is available at your address.
Check what other providers quote for your postcode before assuming the bundle wins. Full fibre pricing varies enormously street by street.
Add-ons like Sky Sports and Sky Cinema are separate from the base package, so they can be added and removed, subject to any minimum term that applied when you took them.
Check the term on the add-on specifically rather than assuming it matches the base package, because promotional add-on offers often carry their own commitment.
Add up what you already pay for streaming, then compare Ultimate TV against that total rather than against nothing. Add Sports only if sport is why you are here, take Sky Stream unless you want a new television, and check broadband prices separately.
